After all, medical costs have risen much faster than inflation and the chart spans 40 years which might be enough for medical costs to have tripled.
The laws on the books normally don't auto-increase payments with inflation; maybe Greenstein lobbied just enough to hold the line.

I've never heard of this awesome person who just retired.
Reading between the lines, though, the "taxes/transfers" in the chart are mostly medicare, medicaid and social security. It could be that all of this increase is simply keeping up with inflation?

I have the same criticism of this as of @ESYudkowsky's "List of Lethalities": he largely skips over the step of convincing people that AGI will kill us all.
Like, this podcast is almost two hours but his whole argument fits in a tweet. I will demonstrate:

@CineraVerinia I think GPT4 is dramatically more intelligent and knowledgable than any humans when it comes to anything in the linguistic domain & that its intelligence is capped by lacking explicit mental models. I think of it as "a simulation of the internet"...

A fascinating (and kind of hilarious) finding in this Pew survey: Mormons are among the least popular religious groups in America. They are also the only group that expresses a net favorable opinion of *every other group,* including Muslims and atheists. https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2023/03/15/americans-feel-more-positive-than-negative-about-jews-mainline-protestants-catholics/

A disturbing story. Various people are sounding the alarm; leadership seems to have made the wrong call in Bakhmut. It'll become clear very soon.

I know a lot of people think UA troops have superior training and equipment and an advantage over the Russian mobilized army.
This article tells a different story. A story about how mobilized are sent to the front after 5 days of training.

(I meant this in terms of the amount of learning per training example; in terms of wall-clock time, AIs typically learn much faster than humans)

Traditionally, AIs are known for learning pretty slowly.
This AI apparently learns faster than humans. (As usual I haven't read the paper; maybe it can only learn fast, or at all, in the specific kind of environment it was trained in? Awesome either way!)
