realized belatedly I was thinking of 10^18 Wh/yr here

Blowing through Kardashev I is also a valid goal, but one thing at a time

feeling this more and more

we need: 10^18 watts of zero-carbon energy (probably fission and space-based solar) and carbon capture on the teratonne scale (probably sinking kelp in the ocean)

that's it, that's the game

almost everything else is irrelevant twitter.com/gar…

The NSO zero-click iMessage exploit is pretty mind-bending: it used a vuln in the JBIG2 image compression in PDF, and then, not having scripting, built a virtual CPU entirely out of boolean pixel operations.

All this just to hunt down some dissidents googleprojectzero.blogspot.com

so, was the first part of Termination Shock just straight up riffing off this tweet?

"if we get back on the Henry Adams curve, with energy and population growth in their historic proportions, by 2200 we would reach the status of a Kardashev Type I civilization - with 100x todays population and 100x power/capita - and that's only from a 2.5% growth rate" 🤯

My honest response to this was "how did they get that, it's not out until Novem- dammit."

neat little tool I've really come to like lately: github.com/pubs/pubs

using a little script to hook it up to fzf makes searching through my ebooks/papers super easy- it doesn't have the features of something like mendeley, but super lightweight
