@be
For a laugh I suggested bitcoin mining using cats, catnip and cat flaps to generate static electricity and mine bitcoins once at a competition to suggest ludicrous startup ideas.
@niplav @Dee

@onepict @be @niplav @Dee

I set up a "catcam" in my garden (with a spare CCTV camera from work) and was considering using it as an entropy generator for an RNG, but discovered there was a non random pattern to the cats, they seemed to share territory near exactly an hour apart (so you would see a different cat every hour). I had to return the camera in the end as it was needed for a new build, and a tortoiseshell cat (who also visits my house) has commandeered the garden mostly for herself..

@onepict

The BBC did a similar experiment in 2014 with 50 cats (some carrying their own GPS collars and cameras) and found much the same to be happening 😺

@niplav @Dee Time to generate a Ed25519 PGP key. It has super short signature.

@niconiconi @niplav I plan to do that for my next one (current one expires in December), and I expect it will break things in new and exciting ways if it's ed25519 only

@Dee @niconiconi @niplav I haz curves, works fine except for things like IndieAuth.

$ gpg -K gpg: WARNING: server 'gpg-agent' is older than us (2.2.29 < 2.2.32) gpg: Note: Outdated servers may lack important security fixes. gpg: Note: Use the command "gpgconf --kill all" to restart them. /home/haelwenn/.gnupg/pubring.kbx --------------------------------- sec# ed25519/0x90D93ACCFEFF61AE 2017-12-11 [C] Key fingerprint = DDC9 237C 14CF 6F4D D847 F6B3 90D9 3ACC FEFF 61AE uid [ultimate] Haelwenn Monnier (lanodan; 2nd key) <contact@hacktivis.me> uid [ultimate] Haelwenn Monnier (Fediverse, not email) <lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me> uid [ultimate] Haelwenn Monnier (lanodan; work) <contact@lanodan.eu> ssb> ed25519/0xD5B7A8E43C997DEE 2017-12-11 [S] ssb> cv25519/0x473C9CA78949B492 2017-12-11 [E] ssb> ed25519/0xB5EE389601D67191 2018-01-21 [A]

(kept the version warning because that’s Gnu’s Not Usable Privacy Guard for you)

@Dee @niconiconi @niplav I made an ed25519 SSH key but it doesn't work on half the stuff I connect to so I also made an rsa key and now I'm using both at the same time and could have saved everyone some time by just using rsa :blobsad:

@rune @niconiconi @niplav I've been using ed25519 SSH keys for a while and haven't had problems, but then openssh has had ed25519 support for longer than gpg (though I think both supported the government curves beforehand)
