Tumblr is now owned by WordPress people so it makes sense to try to integrate their platform with federated systems.
The potential audience in this kind of networks will only grow with time, and subscriptions to private feeds will get easier too.

I got 7420 points in a fun game where you need to find design mistakes cantunsee.space/

seems like I still have some of my UX eye left despite not having done it in years. great exercise in Seeing. it's surprisingly hard to actually see with your eyes and not your mind

Are you tagged in a thread that you don't want to take part in any more?

You can mute just the conversation itself, no one will know you've done this:

-Log in through website or a third party app, go to one of your posts in the thread, click on ⋯ and "Mute conversation".

-If you haven't posted in the thread, go to a post where you were tagged, then ⋯ and "Mute conversation".

-If you change your mind, do same thing but select "Unmute conversation".

The official app doesn't have this yet.

mastodon getting mainstream coverage has been such an intense demonstration of that effect where you only realize that the news is completely, outrageously wrong about the most basic shit when it talks about something you're actually familiar with

If you're worried about your admin reading your DMs just be on an instance where the admin doesn't remember how to do that

I've been tinkering with Stable Diffusion and made A #projects Thing.

Color Anything
color-anything.com

It's a ridiculous use of something as powerful as SD but my son's super into colouring at the moment and I've been struggling to find new stuff for him. The colouring pages sites all steal each other's images so there's not actually that much variety out there. I thought I'd try throwing SD at it and... it sort of works! The results are occasionally mad but quite often fun.

Hello Fediverse!

I'm sharing a thing that I hope can be the beginning for many conversations, and represents for me a statement that is the result of many years of conversation:

slocanstatement.org/

I call it the #SlocanStatement, and I'm sharing it here first, in public, in the spirit of the Fediverse.

I hope you'll read it, share it if you think it's a valuable statement, and comment and revise it towards building consensus across the Fediverse.

this meme is shits less on the factcheck systems than self-congratulatory left-lib progressive, who, blind to these dynamics, uses their perceived moral authority from being on the "right side of history" to cudgel those deviating from dogma, perpetuating this silencing effect

that being said for many people it is just unprincipled edgelord shit and/or just being contratian for the sake of it; but even then, I suspect many of them have an intuitive sense of this same bigbrain shit but don't know how to verbalize it

I personally deeply resent being told what to think, esp as my own framing & biases tend to differ from the mainstream; this is compounded by the seeming impossibility of discussing this w/ many who knee-jerk interpret criticism of these systems as evidence of sus fringe politics

this last aspect is particularly important: the inherently contextual nature of fact. mainstream culture posits fact as objective substance plucked from the tree of knowledge, when in reality its an emergence of a complex production system w/ many actors, each w/ agendas & biases

not only is it lowkey disrespectful but it's also done in an opaque and unaccountable way; do you know how this epistemic supply chain functions? can you inspect its process for flaws or bias? do you have any real input to its produced claims and choice of frame?

them being given a privileged form factor on these platforms is best interpreted as a form of adversarial epistemics; you are being told "we know better than you and are telling you what you should be thinking".

can't speak for everyone but my own issue (and many others' I know) is that these "fact checks" are positioned as the Voice of Authority without acknowledgement of the subjective nature of knowledge production

friend posted insta story asking why we mock fact checks

my experiences with psychedelics and meditation opened me up to vividness, and I burned brightly for a while, burning myself in the process

eventually, I found a path to centeredness in the study of the Dao thru Tai Chi

this practice tempered my flame
