I was thinking about it and there are a lot of similarities between Ark in Space (1975) and Alien (1979). Unstoppable, exoskeleton covered aliens that use humans to brood their young, check. Tense scene crawling through maintenance ducts never knowing when the aliens might strike, check. Crew in plastic covered sleep pods, check. Killing an alien with a rocket engine, check. The Ark in Space was great! Excellent story, ambiguous villains and fantastically cheesy effects. I loved it! Now I'm on to The Sontaran Experiment. It follows on directly from The Ark in Space and is shaping up to be just as good. Kudos to the props department for the evil robot! #scifi #drwho

When I was a kid, my parents weren't home much. I would get home from school, fix myself something to eat and tune into PBS to watch Dr. Who. My schedule plus the nature of broadcast TV meant that I got to see most of some of the stories. Luckily, I just discovered that all the classic episodes are on Tubi! #DrWho #tv #genx #scifi

Dr Who always has been 'woke'.

Tenth Planet was aired in 1966. At this time it was still legal to advertise houses as "No blacks", or refuse service in shops. The episode featured a black astronaut, plated by Earl Cameron. This was the first ever TV casting of a non-white actor as an astronaut.

A lot of people complain that Dr Who has become 'too woke', but it appears to have been pushing boundaries almost since the very beginning.

I did a first degree in #Classics, then worked/didn't work as an actor for a while, during which time I got really interested in #folk #folksong.

Started to do #fieldwork, realised I needed to think harder about it so did an MA in #folklore. Liked it. A lot.

Did a PhD on Contemporary Belief in #Ghosts - https://uhra.herts.ac.uk/handle/2299/7184.

Currently on the Council of the Folklore Society, Associate Editor of its journal Folklore, & on the editorial board of #FolkMusic Journal.

I've written on #ghostlore, folklore about #rats, #cannibalism at sea, tongue twisters (inter alia), and (increasingly) folklore's history. Was doing this through folkloresque representation in #folkhorror, crime novels & (most recently) #DrWho, then finally just got on with doing it as historical research.
