you can see this in everything from the most mainstream stuff like evangelion to the most obscure stuff like lain and fruits basket.
hell, even trash shounen stuff does it too – it’s just that the subject of the metaphor is always the same: boy coming-of-age.
this lack of appreciation is what makes netflix adaptations predictably horrifying
they have none of the core subtext that makes the original media worth a damn, and they ALSO leave out any fanservice because they’re drooling prudish marvel-rotted consoomers
