someone should make a good rule of thumb for when to sign up for a yearly subscription over a monthly one

my impulse is:

1) If you've used it near-daily for a year and think you'll use it for the rest of your life, get a yearly subscription (AND IMMEDIATELY CANCEL IT)

2) THAT'S IT. never ever under any other circumstances should you get a yearly subscription

i guarantee you you've counterfactually lost money on all but 1, maybe 2, of the things you've subscribed yearly to

also, real services that are not worried about retention do not offer yearly rates

look at spotify, look at tv streaming services
