mastodon.art has blocked outerkosm.us for (officially, per their website):

Federates with the usual suspects

I don't know what this means, but I believe it's essentially a form of penalizing coercion tactic/justification used to leverage other instances into joining the sanctioning of whatever entities they believe deserve sanctioning. Expressed here: https://outerkosm.us/notes/9arsonzgmy

Worse is that
mastodon.art did not only block my instance---mastodon.art publicly slandered my instance as harboring child sexual exploitation material (CSEM), Naziism, hate speech. ---And, encouraged other instances to join them in #fediblock! Post found here: https://mastodon.art/@Curator/109799802882253307

mastodon.art's claims are a complete fabrication. At the time of their decision to maliciously slander/fediblock outerkosm.us, the instance itself wasn't 36 hours old! Not only do I not tolerate any such content or behavior, but I know for a fact that no such material exists, nor has ever existed, on my instance.

I never once received any reports, complaints, or communications from
mastodon.art administration, nor any other administrators or users of remote instances, regarding any controversial, objectionable, or offensive content from my instance or the users therein. In fact, at the time of writing this, I've not received any reports or complaints from anyone whatsoever about anything!

I replied to
mastodon.art's post asking for clarification and expressed how upset I was that they would do something so arbitrarily cruel to a brand new, small instance such as my own: https://outerkosm.us/notes/9asjjhl7me

I messaged the administrator of
mastodon.art and furthermore emailed their administrative account again asking for clarification and expressing my discontent. I never got a response.

Blocking an instance is fine, it's part of the administrative process of the fediverse; It's a fact of life. But, to publicly lie and cruelly slander an instance is another matter completely. ---Especially when doing so to abuse the Mastodon
#fediblock weapon. For an instance like mastodon.art, with nearly 8,000 users, to do this... it's the fediverse equivalent of dropping a nuclear weapon on a tiny country. And, for no reason, at that! I do not understand why they would do this. My instance did nothing to them!

I can't interpret the actions of
mastodon.art here as anything short of completely random cruelty: purely motivated by a desire for sabotage. A brand new instance joins the fediverse and a giant Mastodon instance immediately broadcasts fraudulent claims to over 8,000 people---to the entire fediverse---that this new instance is harboring or disseminating CSEM, Naziism, etc.. And specifically tells users "not to interact". Doesn't elaborate further. Doesn't respond to questions. Doesn't explain anything.

I just don't understand.

I'd be lying if I claimed I wasn't upset, or that this didn't bother me.

@adiz

welcome to the club!
and welcome to higher-lever mastodon!
all the jannies compensate for their sorry life by powertripping
@theorytoe @adiz they cant bully you if you laugh at them for being state sponsored useful idiots "fighting the system maaaaaan" (sponsored by wells fargo)

@jeff@federated.fun I mean, laugh all one wants.. but the problem is with their public post itself and the nature of #fediblock. From this point onwards, due to mastodon.art's lies, this instance will be branded by the rest of Mastodon (I say Mastodon specifically because this is a purely Mastodon phenomenon---this isn't exhibited elsewhere on the fedi by other instance softwares [Mastodon really is an intranet/cult]) as being a CSEM/Nazi instance. They just made this shit up and slapped these titles on me and my instance. I think the part that bothers me the most is that they did it for seemingly no reason whatsoever. It's like a kid stamping on an ant colony just for fun or something. @theorytoe@ak.kyaruc.moe

@adiz @theorytoe @jeff it sucks. there's nothing you can really do about it. it's a dynamic heavily present in fedi where defederating to curate your own feed - a perfectly reasonable thing to do - became defederating as a moral act, where inaction counts as allowance or tacit agreement with things you didn't defederate (as judged by consensus and whether you were aware of these things even existing being irrelevant)

personally i don't defederate anyone. i have a high tolerarance for seeing dipshits and or distasteful things. not everyone is like this! i don't think someone is a snowflake or whatever if they'd rather not see slurs or people talking about child pussy or whatever, that is something understandable. i've personally decided that the potential upsides of defederating as little as possible (finding in "problematic" instances legitimately interesting people) far outweight the benefits of not seeing really boring posts that are just slurs copy pasted; but some other admins might not want to do that

but these two philosophies are not at all incompatible. if someone is bothered by what federating with me puts on their federated timeline (a feed that as far as i can tell barely anyone can see) federated_timeline_removal perfectly serves to fix that problem while still letting me talk to users on their instance and users on theirs to mine. it is a non issue.

it doesn't bother me that i don't get to talk to this or that obviously profoundly dull admin who has nothing better to do than sit at their computer and moralise about who i decide to allow to talk to me - it bothers me that there might have been interesting people in their instance i do not get to talk to anymore. mastodon.art is a perfect example of that. chances are a lot of their users might not have wanted to speak to me on their own, but since they are a big mastodon instance, i imagine they have a large influx of users new to the fediverse who don't quite understand how federation work who it would be fantastic to see more of; i want more art, i want more creativity. and now i can't see it

a lot of the #darkfedi (a name they gave us for some reason) takes the stance that this is the trash taking itself out. people who defederate you for not defederating are uninteresting and uncurious people anyways. and i'd mostly agree. the unfazed attitude you have to have in the side of fedi where you can say mostly anything means it's full of interesting weirdos, and ultimately that's what i look for in fedi, so screw the weenie masto side - but there is a middle ground of more normal less unhinged but nevertheless worthwhile people who, while not happy to be here and see everything, would be perfecty fine with a more selective blocking policy, and they're often spooked by the hyperstition cycle of accusations where you not defederating a racist instance turns into you being a racist instance or not defederating a pedo instance means you're a pedo insance or whatnot

i don't let it get to me because yknow, why bother, but it is frustrating at times
