how did it become cringe to make & sell merch in order to monetize your sudden 15 minutes of fame? is it b/c it's gauche to be too obvious about wanting money? or b/c it's narcissistic to imply that others would want to display you & your creation to the world?

kinda wonder how this stacks up against other reactions to going viral, e.g. for tweets there's linking to your SoundCloud (not $$ = better?), paid product promo (galaxy/sunset lights) (🤢), linking to petitions / non-profit donations (selfless so I guess it's better?), etc
