Shook that @ESYudkowsky is talking to mainstream media again. Was hoping to geek out on obscure blogs in peace, but now when I mention Newcomb's Paradox or sth, people gon be like "Oh, like the neckbeard was talking about on CNN?"

And I'm gonna have to be like "yeep 🥶" and stfu

From a purely self interested perspective tho you shouldda signed it tho. FAIR is behind & can benefit if the leaders waited a little lmao

The year is 1440 and the Catholic Church has called for a 6 months moratorium on the use of the printing press and the movable type.
Imagine what could happen if commoners get access to books!
They could read the Bible for themselves and society would be destroyed.

I expect the usual pattern. Nerds figure something out. They get super excited. Everybody be like "awww they untangled their toy how nice" and forgets about it.

A very very random amount of years later, could be 1, could be 100...

Stop allowing people to sign up with voip numbers if you can't verify with them, and fix your email verification pls

Show thread

Thank God for failsafes. Received a text for a zoom room and that worked.

@circlemd your email verification is still broken and you still fail silently for VOIP numbers though!

Show thread

They acted with incredible swiftness and managed to lock me out of my account a few hours prior to my appointment. Good job @circlemd

Show thread

I specifically explained to the customer service person what the problem was and what not to do. And yet they did it.

Good news I figured out their email verification bug not only affects android, but iphone also!

Show thread

Oh hey look I signed up for another account using a variant of the same email address, and @circlemd "FIXED" the problem for me by merging my two accounts and ASSIGNING THE BAD VOIP NUMBER to the new account.

Now I'm missing my appointment.

This makes me want to instrument all division operations in a bunch of int heavy programs and figure out what the average / median / distribution of the quotients are.

Integer division is exceptionally slow on a GPU, so I've written a single-instruction, O(1) complexity integer division algorithm in CUDA. Please feel free to use it (with attribution).

That is, until recently. Enter the LLaMA experiments.

Meta released a family of GPT-3 quality models to researchers starting end of February.

Since then, it's been leaked. And people have been pushing to get them running on smaller and smaller devices.

A quick runthrough:
