obituary

Fred Brooks, architect of the IBM/360 and its OS, author of The Mythical Man Month, and advocate for the 8-bit byte (enabling lower case letters!), passed away today.

Few in computing have influenced so many.

Oh, I'm sorry, I mistook you for someone else with the same anime character as their profile picture.

You can have a little mindless boosterism, as a treat.

But only a little.

It's called "pop" culture because just like soda "pop" it is made out of corn syrup. They replaced carbonation and sugar in "soda" with corn. They replaced folklore, heroes, and myths with spiritual corn syrup in "culture."

There are entire corporate brands (cults) which exist solely to replace these specific staples of human life with corn.

picking a mastodon server to join is easy -- just think of it like you're allying with one of many families in a war-torn medieval land, each with their own histories, feuds, laws, blood rituals

I heard there was a secret note
That William Carlos Williams wrote
But you don't really care for sorries, do you?

It goes like this, they're cold, they're sweet
You saved them for a breakfast treat
But from your fridge, I took the plums and screwed you.

Lol, the cross poster at moa considers any link to another tweet a QT and doesn't cross post it.

Fedi fam, if you want to see my livewatch, you'll have to go to the birdsite, sorry.
