day one back from my vacation, i have a meeting and write like 4 lines of code, and then the waves of fatigue come back again

something about doing literally anything i'm "supposed to" makes me want to get earth-shatteringly stoned and then take a nap for the rest of my life

during my week-long vacation i was able to scrounge up enough executive function to replace three (3) of the kitchen tiles that have been broken apart to pieces for the past 5 years and also to vacuum part of my living room one time. all the burnt out light bulbs will have to wait another year.

how do people do this? how do people work 40 hours a week and also eat regularly, perform basic maintenace tasks like washing dishes, etc? or is everybody who lives alone just buried in half-empty takeout containers?

@enkiv2 My estimation is that like 85% of people lower their standards, 10% are people who are trained (by school or the military or abusive bosses or whatever) to route limbic override into prosocial behaviors. The remaining 5% are rich AND dislike the mess for whatever reason.

@cosmiccitizen
This is sort of what I'm figuring, from being over the houses of my bachelor friends, but we're all software engineers with depression so I'm not totally sure what 'normal' is.

@enkiv2 Honestly IDK about my own observations. I thought about the average messiness of all the houses I saw into when I last took a small person trick-or-treating.

FWIW I think the healthiest thing a normal person can do is to take an honest look at how much time they're willing to put into this stuff, prioritize the most critical stuff, and spend whatever time they have on their critical priorities. If you can get things done in time, then yay. Otherwise, something's got to give.
