so-called adult media isn't interesting to me in any way. the stories being told aren't changing that much - they're just repackaged with "adult" stuff and often are just as phoned in as your typical shounen

For me its about compelling story telling, though the occasional self-aware silliness that parodies typical tropes is fun, too.
