I have a big list of books that keeps growing faster than I will ever be able to catch up, like the achilles and turtle thing except i'm the turtle trying to catch up with achilles
I also like to read articles and browse the web and listen to podcasts and so on but I don't feel like it's "learning" unless it's reading a big book wherein I struggle with it because attention span is fucked

that said I am still quite certain that there is no knowledge that absolutely has to be acquired from reading a certain thing, and that an illiterate bum can be smarter and wiser than the most erudite scholar in the ways that matter
when I read a book two things could happen:
1) it affects me profoundly and I think about it for months afterwards, while rereading and obsessively notetaking
2) it bores me and I leave it unfinished
this seems to be the "right" way (and I agree) but also every now and then I will talk to someone who is convinced the reason I don't agree with him is because I don't understand something crucial that can only be understood by Reading the Book, regardless of what i think
the even more fucked thing is I *care* to know this because I might be wrong and I want to know if so. but taken to its logical conclusion this seems to compel me to finish my book list and also read all the other books
which seems suspiciously like "learning for its own sake", the useless self-defeating kind

it doesn't help that I often hear "what youre talking about sounds like such and such theory" when I talk about random ideas I've been thinking about because it gives me the illusion that I have that level of intuition (this is not a brag but a self-own)
in some twisted way I feel like going out of my way to LEARN ALL THE THINGS would be like "giving in" to this insecurity, not even mentioning that learning all the things is impossible in the first place
