The lack of a sudden and appallingly thorough naval response to the interdiction of the Red Sea by some raggedy-assed pirates clearly demonstrates that we should build more goddamn cruisers.

Murdering the shit out of people who screw with maritime supply chains is basically what cruisers are for.

Change my mind.

@cerebrate Convoy system shoulda started already, and I'm always happy to build more warships. Too bad our "cruisers" are just Aegis radars on last-gen destroyer hulls. We should have gone with the Strike Cruiser proposal... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strike

@cerebrate modern pirates aren’t stupid, that’ll just be a more expensive ship for them to sneak aboard and hijack

@zarpaulus

While my regard for the competence of the US government has never exactly been high, if the Navy has degenerated to the point that said raggedy-assed pirates can steal a cruiser out from under its crew and marine complement, you might as well stick a fork in these United States right now. They're done.

But I'm gonna need a little more before I buy it.
