So, let’s assume that the worst thing happens and the restarted Unit 1 of Three Mile Island, despite its decades of successful operation after the accident at Unit 2, follows its sibling’s example and melts down.

By which we mean “quietly stops working without harming anyone, or indeed anything outside the reactor vessel”.

Yeah. I can live with that.

I've long been a proponent of nuclear power (I'll stop just as soon as wind / solar can work at the same scale).

Restarting this particular reactor *purely* so techbros can squander its output on a worthless technology that no one but them wants strikes me as the height of folly.

I hate "AI" as much as the next sane man, but new-build reactors take way too long, and we need more experienced techs and maintainers *now.* There'd be a lot of benefits beyond the megawatts.
