if they bail out ftx im gonna scream

@niplav wouldn’t that be good? (doubt they will though)

@sophon
no
it wouldn't be
like that was massive criminal activity and corrupt & bad firms need to die

@niplav in any other context I would agree 100% but this isn’t a normal context. are’t ftx and sbf Our Glorious Hoeroes protecting us from the evil paperclippers?

@sophon
this is the kind of thinking that got us into this mess in the first place

my ethical injunctions are trying to shove my head in the toilet

they will not be pacified by a "oh that would be good"

@sophon but then again it's nearly 8 am and i haven't gone to bed yet so mmmv

@niplav yeah that’s fair. and also FTX imploding has forced EAs to update a bit and bailing out FTX might undo that. opinion updated.

get some sleep niplav :akko_yawn:

@niplav Is there any danger of this? Who is "they"? I got the impression that the reactions to the FTX implosion have ranged from schadenfreude to outrage, not much in the way of compassion.

@zebrask they=US government

I don't think this is a real threat but the lukewarm response of traditional media to the FTX thing and vague statements by us officials make this seem slightly more likely

Maybe 5%

@niplav Yeah, the US government bailing this out seems like it would be *horrible* moral hazard.
