consider the humble seed, that diminutive bearer of a plant's desire; simple in form & unassuming in appearance, it nevertheless contains a miracle. so ubiquitous, its easy to forget each is a viable embryo, stemming from an unbroken continuous chain out of the primordial soup

every single seed contains the spark of life, that miraculous property which endows some portion of matter with the ability to self-perpetuate, to reorganize the world around it in its effort to externalize entropy and maintain internal coherence.

a seed is potential incarnate.

it is a biological program, tightly compressed, awaiting the right substrate; once planted, it executes, unfolding the template for its predestined phenotype, extending influence into the surrounding space. the program is self-contained, including blueprints and 3d printer both.

how wondrous is it that such a small thing can bring into existence something so much larger? that it contains an algorithm for recreating its progenitor, that such an incredible machine can even exist in such a miniscule form factor? human engineering has nothing on nature; yet

we have so much to learn from the evolutionary architect; biomimicry has taught us much already, and we've only barely scratched the surface. can you imagine us possessing the capability to create artificial seeds? how amazing that would be, if we could harness this machinery.

the ultimate secret to crack is that of life itself; fully understanding the self-replication mechanisms so that we can create our own artificial life forms. that's the ultimate purpose of synthetic biology: to craft a seed for all that we desire.
