@pee_zombie @locus what things can the average user do to help the server out?

e.g. saw a toot saying that its better to upload videos and images to other hosting platforms (like youtube) and link to that in order to save space and bandwidth for the server

what other low hanging fruit is there?

@pee_zombie @locus

to what degree can the instance be modified? i have a few ideas that seem promising

1. add a donor badge

2. organize threads so we don't read them in reverse

@AbstractFairy @pee_zombie @locus I think organizing threads is a thing you can do in your app if you want

@AbstractFairy @locus appreciate the thought! i'm fine with media uploads for now, am using an external blob storage provider. if storage costs skyrocket may have to revisit

best way to help is to spread the word, help onboard others, figure out good ways to use this platform and educate, etc.

and, we can modify extensively as masto is open source; there are a few extant forks already, such as glitch-social and hometown, and non-masto platforms like pleroma, soapbox, gotosocial, etc

@AbstractFairy @locus

re:
1. eventually yeah! i'm trying to stay away from the donation model but i do want to introduce paid support tiers eventually, at which point this will be useful

2. yeah thats prob a client thing tbh, altho some other forks may have ideas about this! check out glitchsoc

@AbstractFairy more than happy to take this sort of suggestion btw, keep them coming!
