i lived in singapore and tokyo for a few years as a kid and my main takeaway was that the main difference between rich and poor countries is the quality of streets, pavements, and buildings
squeaky clean shoes are a status marker over here because it means you can afford to take a car everywhere and step exclusively on concrete and marble

i get the impression that the city in Her (2014) was meant to be super sterile/empty and a bit dystopic but for me there's something soothing about smooth surfaces and ikeacore furniture - like a relief from the rough edges and harsh noise of the "real world"
