Raise your hand if you already know this mad plan isn't ever going to happen. At most, we might see a *very* small number of human landings; no permanent settlement will come of it.

If by some dark sorcery he DOES manage a "long-term" presence, it will be a base with at most a dozen or so fools, who will die horribly from some foreseeable systems failure. And the story will end there.

It's much easier to establish a long-term undersea presence, and we've never done that at any significant scale either.

I, too, have read _A City on Mars_ .

It seemed to me to be a very fine example of Obstructive Naysaying, but not much more.
