npr has an article with tips on how to reduce food waste at home. “Dear [reader/listener],” it begins, “did you know that 1/3 of food in America goes to waste? Your kitchen scraps are causing the literal death of the environment.”

Now look, they aren’t off base on their assessment nor are their tips bad. HOWEVER, it once again is a hollow take—where is most food produced/consumed/wasted? That’s right folks, restaurants and grocery chains. Those billion dollar corporations like Kroger-Weyland-Yutani conglomerate who own almost every supermarket in the nation. A sandwich restaurant whose name rhymes with “mcbonalds”.

FFS, the entire supermarket model is anti-environment, with every kilogram of food wrapped in CO2 emissions from long distance diesel transportation and refrigeration.

It’s fucking infuriating how short sighted these feelgood greenwashing articles are. The only solutions imagined by consumer capitalism are consumer capitalist solutions, qed.
