Is the humane nose optimized as to pull in air as widely as possible and then exhale it in one specific direction?
Would make sense as to not breathe in the air you already deoxygenated
@niplav It seems we only consume about 5% of the oxygen we breathe, so I'm not sure that matters.
Also I assume holding your breath makes that number go up, so maybe that's more where the reason is.
@niplav Sucking is always omnidirectional, while blowing is unidirectional. Nothing special about the human nose here.
I once saw a miniature boat moving on that principle: it sucked in water and then blew it out again, making it move in one direction.
