think carefully on what sort of freedom you want, and why you want it; what use is a freedom you will never exercise?

there is no free lunch; every freedom is balanced by an equivalent constraint. this generates tension, which drives action

gender is an adaptation to a resource-constrained environment to allow for greater efficiencies thru specialization and division of labor

gender norms are game-theoretic equilibria to discourage defection and build trust, hence allowing for sustainable long-term cooperation

the universe is vast, chaotic, unstructured; it presents nigh-unlimited optionality, which is the scourge of meaning

the solution to seemingly-inevitable nihilism is to build significance for yourself from freedom/constraint pairs

this is not grim, for an illusion of hope is all we can achieve; possibilities cannot be reified; at least, not in the present. when we talk of hope, we talk of virtualities, of the asymptotes we want to strive for

through this striving transcendence of circumstances is achieved

predominantly, this choice of freedoms seems to be a zero-sum game; everyone dies in the end, no matter how you live

but by looking to the future and envisioning it to be better than the present, we can create the illusion of hope, helping us adapt

all choices are trade-offs between sets of problems you'd rather have; there is no optimization free lunch.

when we talk of freedom, we mean the ability to choose the set of constraints you'd rather be bound by

have fun being wrong, we'll still win in the end

this is especially true when it comes to instincts about people; our subconscious is much more experienced than our explicit reasoning faculty, having been trained over a lifetime. if you get a bad feeling about someone, it's probably right.

Chesterton's gut says that you shouldn't try to consciously override an intuition unless you can explain where it came from and why it's wrong; much ills come from ignoring our gut instincts bc they disagree with our stated beliefs.

if you fail to supply your own narrative to justify your efforts to yourself, your subconscious will artificially generate adversity for you to overcome in the form of procrastination. this is why only those without a well-defined life purpose struggle with it.
