TCM is a great example of this, in that it demonstrably works, but at face value its stated mechanisms of action are nonsensical. getting through this initial barrier is key to accessing the underlying insights, but many are not able/willing to suspend disbelief long enough

if you don't value the life of a living being which is doing you no harm, and in fact is helping you, less than your own mental comfort, I find it rather difficult to trust you

never ceases to amaze me how easily people skip over that intermediate step, jumping directly from thinking that if one says "some things are better than others" they obviously also mean "bad things should be eliminated"
telling on the authoritarian eugenicist in themselves, no?
what I find rather interesting is the implicit assumption that ableism is bad; like, yes, ok, this is obviously ableism, there's no debating this. but is it bad? isn't what's bad about it the potential actions which might be taken as a result of the hierarchical ranking?

one of my favorite things to do on a date is to just walk around and notice things together. sadly enough it's often then first time my companion has had someone point out interesting biology in the built environment to them and it doesn't fail to impress

never believe anyone who tells you that the way to not be bothered is to shrink yourself and dissociate
your boundaries matter and enforcement thereof is the only thing which generates respect
at first I reacted by trying to ignore it, be above it all, pretend like I didn't care, but of course that just made it worse, causing me to mistrust the well meaning teachers who told me to do so, even more than I already did
and similarly, it only stopped when I went apeshit
weirdly enough I had this precisely same experience in middle school and it defined my personality for years after
I was basically predestined to be bullied, as a 2nd year transfer into a school of normies; reading for fun was grounds for mockery, as was my appearance and accent
