negativity kills the spirit, kneecaps passion, and chains one's joy

spiritual ossification stems from a fear of the new, and the remedy is bold vulnerability

maybe its okay to unironically like the weird new thing; it will always be easier to stay still

RT @pee_zombie
spiritual ossification entails the loss of this quality; many equate this with adulthood, but it need not be so.

those who are young at heart remain free of sin

the irony of this approach is that an identity composed of layered negations is not self-sufficient, being defined in reference to external factors, and as such naturally tends to stagnate, not possessing internal affordances for renewal or growth

I'll also passed thru this personality phase; I loved to dump on php and pop music, to smugly deride anything basic and popular. in reality, this was a combination of clumsy attempts at legitimate criticism, fueled by insecurities about being an outcast

I often see this peculiar sort of comedic ossification present in the type of personality who seems to only feel capable of expressing themselves in the negative, by denigrating various aspects of the world; this stems from some spiritual blockage, some deep shame around joy

as always I'm just mocking my past self

it's ok tho that guy really did find value in these ideas & he didn't have an existing connection to any spiritual tradition or font of wisdom due to the havok WW2 & the holocaust wrecked on the continuity of his family's inherited wisdom

this stems from an insidious & subtle form of narcissism, wherein one holds oneself to unrealistic standards they'd never expect of a friend, implicitly suggesting they're somehow better, and hence more capable of meeting such a high bar. the solution is, ofc, to relax your grip

at-scale systems rarely have their logic centralized in such a legible way, but rather are diffuse, the overall "algorithm" being an emergent property of the coordinated behavior of many actors

ofc they could have built it in such a way as to enable this. but p sure they didn't

does he mean "the entire timeline generation system comprised of multiple services & data pipelines" or does he mean "one very small & specific comparator used in a relatively inconsequential subcomponent of this aforementioned system"?

bc most ppl think "the algo" is the latter

it can feel chaotic, to always find oneself at a different point in the cycle, but thru these many iterations an internal cadence is found and a stable state spade attractor arrived at

once a stable self emerges, boundaries can be calibrated more precisely, allowing more in

it causes a pendulum swing to the opposite extreme, but this can be a good thing, as it creates space within which to breathe and solidify. often this is a cyclic process, oscillating back and forth, as internal regulatory mechanisms are developed

there's a bootstrap problem here; if ur infringed upon from all sides to the point where you don't know where you end and others begin, how can you even begin to coherent a self-concept?

people develop hyperstrict boundaries as a way of breaking out of intolerable situations

much of society's ills can be understood as these same internal tensions of dualism writ large, thrashing & externalizing entropy; where can we find a civilizational psychiatrist?

how does an entire people undergo spiritual metamorphosis?

if there's any lesson here, it's that whatever psychology has to say about a single human mind applies to larger cognitive systems too, a la Hari Seldon. we already discuss Internal Family systems and Societies of Mind, implicitly acknowledging this similarity.
