Incredible x86 emulator written by Fabrice Bellard in Javascript runs Linux: bellard.org/jslinux/
In the last 10 years since I originally posted this Fabrice has added multiple distros to this, real networking ability, support for many programs including compilers, a web browser, and the ability to run X windows, all running in the browser. This is the same guy who made QEMU, ffmpeg, Tiny C compiler and a faster way of computing Pi in hexadecimal. Have fun.

Given all the drama that's been happening on the bird site, this is starting to feel more relevant than ever.

Might fuck around and start exploring Gemini, the only real downfall is the inability of most RSS clients to fetch feeds from there. Anyone knows a client that can?

Dropping an OPINION
Sunday shopping laws are good, actually
Shopping hours laws that prohibit or heavily restrict night-time retail are good, actually

For me its:
Dominions 5, the best turn-based strategy ever made
Dota 2, the mistake
League of Legends, the mistake but better
WoW Classic, I play discipline priest btw

I don't think single person server ownership is gonna happen for non-techie ppl, even if its VPS, but family/friendcircle server ownership is more than possible! You don't need a nextcloud/email server/pleroma instance for EVERYONE, this sftwr supports multiple usrs for a reason.

RE: "People don't want to run their own servers."

I will happily bet against this. If you make it easy, and accessible, people are more than willing to run their own infrastructure. There are plenty of challenges left to solve, but it is very much a challenge worth solving.
