Only tiling window managers make sense to me. When would you not want a single window to fill the the entire screen or have multiple windows be as large as possible?

@blueberry 100% agree. IIRC the first window systems out of Xerox PARC were tiled, and I don't know why that didn't catch on.

@willdaly Maybe floating windows made more sense to people rather than using virtual desktops.

iirc historically floating windows managers were designed to mimic literal desktops

so people who didnt know how to use computers at all could use them relatively intuitively

uis have to be designed for people who dont know how to computer because thats almost everyone
