However, many people are surprised to know the monster's name is not actually Mastodon. That's the name of its creator, Dr. John Mastodon.

This is Mastodon's Monster.

The #OnlineSafetyBill is still in play in the UK, and still contains deeply concerning aspects despite much revision, notably requiring age verification (which could amount to a need for ID cards to access the Internet) and a requirement for platforms to inspect content (which could ban effective encryption).

This is a decent summary: gp-digital.org/the-return-of-t

@openrightsgroup are on the case too, although their singular focus on encryption may backfire. openrightsgroup.org/campaign/s

> The PSP's web browser is - charitably - pathetic. It is slow, frequently runs out of memory, and can only open 3 tabs at a time... But the GOV.UK pages are written in simple HTML. They are designed to be lightweight and will work even on rubbish browsers. They have to. This is for everyone...
> Are you developing public services? Or a system that people might access when they're in desperate need of help? Plain HTML works. A small bit of simple CSS will make look decent. JavaScript is probably unnecessary - but can be used to progressively enhance stuff. Add alt text to images so people paying per MB can understand what the images are for (and, you know, accessibility).
> Go sit in an uncomfortable chair, in an uncomfortable location, and stare at an uncomfortably small screen with an uncomfortably outdated web browser. How easy is it to use the websites you've created?

The Unreasonable Effectiveness Of Simple HTML

Using fedi to read deleted tweets because some people mirror their QTs in a way that copies the content.

You have a problem. You use regular expressions. You now have solved your problem with a tool used by thousands and thousands of engineers for decades.

Security Alert, by which we mean <attempt to upsell you on other products>.

Dear twenty-something app developers with perfect eye-sight: Stop putting tiny light grey on dark grey text. Someday you will understand.

@Cheezebell I'm not sure if it's patriarchal violence or just its own (stupid) brand of violence.

Every programming language has a way to do a thing that is simple, straightforward, well supported in the syntax, and widely considered to be bad practice.

@Cheezebell very interesting.

It's rare to see the pro-trans/anti-trans split featured within Radical Feminism. Usually the narrative is TERFs vs Coalitional Feminists, with the TERFs backing up their position with Radical Feminist definitions.

Oh and by the way, do you know what telegram azov supporters' reactions to this was? I'll paste it here:

"Guys, we clear some things up, we get some a lot of messages about why an organisation connected with Azov sent a delegation to Israel, I’ll try to explain this as best as possible.

Organisation “defenders of Avostal families” recently sent a delegation on a public relations trip to Turkey, America, Europe , Saudi Arabia and Israel to showcase a documentary about Azovstal and spread awareness about release of Mariupol defenders. Of course we don’t agree with this and have to strongly condemn this, especially Israel, being no friend of Ukraine and the white race, on the comments of the post is many disappointed militants and former volunteers, after all Israel doesn’t even recognise the holodomor as genocide and Jewish journalists have spent years trying to undermine the regiment.

Now Azov is not what it used to be, Azov started as small unit with 300 guys from Odessa and Kharkiv mainly with strong radical politics, since a lot has changed, Azov is one of the biggest military formations in Ukraine, Maybe around 10-15k soldiers, we never say Azov itself is an openly NS or fascist regiment, in fact now probably only 25% of soldiers and volunteers hold radical and fascist views, still, this is more then you’d find in a military formation anywhere else in the world.

The fact is - Azov is the only place an openly fascist or NS could go to learn military skills, you would not be allowed in your own counties military nor FFL or anything else. Military skills and discipline you learn in the army and Battle conditions will be much needed for the coming struggles of our race, much more then political discussion and arguments on telegram.

Since the war other military units like MD and Nord Storm have formed which is good to see.

We had many comrades, friends and some of our guys from Madrid who fought in the battalion over the years and risked their life’s, we are disappointed in this latest political stunt by some outsiders and spokespersons who have never stepped foot inside a trench or had to dodge incoming artillery attacks but our support for Azov and Ukraine will never change.

We hope it clears some things up, thanks 88

@ciphergoth @cypher yeah. I assume the bettors will take capture into account and can survive a few unfair losses.

But if we use prediction markets as truth oracles, capture takes us away from truth being a good bet.

@D0TheMath this is interesting. It seems to leave the possibility for cranks to keep the market alive well after it should naturally close. I don't know if that's a bug or a feature.

@zebrask I'm assuming that Sunni/Shia doctrinal differences are on the same scope as Baptist/Methodist ones, but you're right that they* just get into the narrow details on Christian sects, but go with historical origins on Muslim ones.

Weird.
