things are likely to work better when people have tried them a lot and there is community/accumulated wisdom

not saying the situations are comparable in terms of harm caused but this definitely feels sloppy and dismissive the way "African-Americans can't speak English properly" does

these are mostly discoursey norms but there are lots of nondiscoursey norms too

tbh my view around youth gender transition is "this seems like a wildly inappropriate thing to decide by a public referendum given this is obviously going to result in a moral panic and not ordinary people carefully scouring the literature, we don't do cardiology by referendum"

oops this is an outdated version pretty sure 2mg/day is still too low for most people though

tbh i suspect the most noticable thing to be T suppression and I'm not sure what the directional effects of that are going to be

i wonder why these patients might not be noticing very much

so after a bit of hunting it looks like they're using us endocrine society guidelines

I suspect pop feminism has a pretty wrongheaded idea of why a lot of this stuff goes unreported

I think putting this front and centre is critical enough that I'm happy to call it the difference between a team that is serious and one that is there for PR purposes

also: how common is the CEA/community health teams thing of "we will not take action on what you've said even if we're really disturbed by it unless you want us to"?
