if you speak >1 languages, do you have a thing where you write better in one language but speak better in another?
so here's a thing about my capacity for self expression
my written english > indonesian, but
my spoken indonesian > english
this is bothering me
obviously this is because ive been living in indonesia for the past decade while spending a lot of time on the english-speaking internet

the *reason* it bothers me in particular tho is that i've been noticing just how much the inferior parts (spoken english and written indonesian) restrict me in expressing myself the way i want
i've been writing a big final report for college and i really feel thoughts coming out and taking the form of english words which i have to painstakingly translate into clunky indonesian;
it seems like there's a sort of charisma that one can draw from in both speaking and writing that are each their separate arts; and training one does not perfectly translate to training the other

this is especially frustrating to realize because i've always had problems with communication, and i've actually done a lot of work in trying to improving the way i talk to people
i figured out that there is a way to be a charismatic and effective speaker and i've learned it some degree. but it turns out i only know how to do that in ONE language
and the reason for this, it would seem, is that the *way* to speak well differs A LOT from one language to another
this may be obvious but i literally just realized this. i thought there was a universal formula or smth!! lmao NO
the same thing happens in writing that may be easier to see - just because you know a language grammatically and have the common vocab doesnt mean you can WRITE GOOD
meanwhile when e.g. i'm doing a video call in english, the words that come into my mind feel totally inadequate in conveying what im trying to say
