...one day I will remember that medical science isn't.

One day.

100. No matter how wearied you are by the incompetent fools surrounding you, you may not spray knowledge-bearing nanites from high-flying aircraft.

No-one will care that they aren't technically chemtrails.

One should at least credit them with trying to break from the "Hey, we can dump arbitrarily large cooling needs into Earth's atmohydrosphere. That won't affect anything we need, right?" paradigm.

@avatar

Yes, sometimes discoveries are made this way. However...

bend down to check the hot end

inhale a lungful of the warm, sweet smell of hot PLA

sigh in pleasure

"ahhh,,, the delicious scent of productivity!"

Exotic biologicals.

Earth's ecosystem can't produce Altair Star Coffee any more than Altair's can produce Jamaica Blue Mountain, but so long as there are obnoxious coffee snobs among the wealthy classes, The Beans Will Flow.

Also the spice(s).

Fictional event of the day: On this day, at 2:14 am, Skynet becomes self-aware. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.

Real moral of the day: Trying to murder sufficiently smart children gets you all nuked, hunted down, and killed.

Favorite German word of the day: Maulwurf.

Which means "mole".

See, to me, moles are associated with weak vision, and good housekeeping, and nice cups of tea, and at this point I must admit that everything I learned about moles came from _The Wind in the Willows_.

"Maulwurf", on the other hand, sounds ridiculously badass.

Like, if someone told me they'd seen a maulwurf in the garden, I'd be all "Get my shotgun. And maybe the flammenwerfer."

This disconnect is entirely too amusing.

Everyone talks about election interference, but no-one talks about proposed policies so self-evidently self-destructive that they should be presumed evidence of working for a hostile power.

I am very tempted to record the presidential debate, whenever it happens, so I can pause after each question, type it into ChatGPT, and see if the LLM can give a more coherent answer than either candidate.

My money's on the stochastic parrot.

(No, not Trump, the other stochastic parrot.)

When your species has telekinesis, you can spin a generator with your brain.

I call this "will to power".

For some [annoying] reason it's not a built-in option any more, but the Custom New Tab extension allows it:

microsoftedge.microsoft.com/ad

Install that and set the URL to about:blank, and you should be good.

In my experience - admittedly as a not-yet-naturalized-because-it's-fucking-expensive immigrant - that particular demographic would have a much better score on passing the "American ideals and civics" portion of the test than many of the native-born.

(This may be one of the roots of my end-birthright-citizenship-and-make-everyone-naturalize policy.)
