I am entirely willing to countenance taxation of unrealized gains provided that we apply it universally.
Everyone must pay income tax, etc., based on the lifestyle they could theoretically have if they optimized their life for maximum economic efficiency.
After all, they *could* do that at any time, and we've already established the principle that gains you didn't choose to make at any given moment are still taxable.
(I am very smart, but I am also very cruel.)
