"suppressing" isn't the right word, but we all have conflicting desires and chose which ones to follow. For some reason when it comes to sex though, people act as though choosing some desires over sex is terrible and unnatural. Bullshit.

"But what if we made ice cream taste the same... or non-addictive heroin..." is missing the point. You have life goals that will require ignoring/contradicting some basic drives. Everyone's goals are different, so you do you. You cannot do anything without suppressing some desire

People seem really stuck on this. I want other partners like I want to eat only ice cream and not exercise while doing heroin. All those things feel really good! Doesn't mean I'm considering it in any way a good idea.
