If I wanted to get excommunicated by the Catholic church, how would I go about doing that? (I'm an atheist)

@jeffcliff @niplav You can tell the local priest that you want to leave the church. He will tell you the address to contact. Your wish to leave will be registered. But: the baptism will not be undone. If you are really an atheist, you can of course be thoroughly indifferent to what the church says about it.

okay, that seems reasonable

i was thinking more about what unhinged stuff i would have to do for the catholic church excommunicate me in its own impetus, without me asking them

i don't think i've heard about an excommunication in the 21st century, even for people who misused church assets, maybe even for the pedophiles?

@niplav @boromir you're looking at the wrong harms -

The catholic church isn't going to excommunicate pedophiles, that's too close to home. They might excommunicate a civil rights organizer or an abortionist or something though

>The catholic church isn't going to excommunicate pedophiles, that's too close to home.
That's just retarded.
@niplav @jeffcliff @boromir

Retards really think a minor scandal in the 90s means that the church officially endorses pedophilia as their legitimate public position and never stop to think how retarded they are.
@jeffcliff @Eris @niplav @boromir I just want you to die and to leave your shitrats with no one.
@D00B @Eris @niplav @jeffcliff @boromir the fat jabbed poop eater is going to die soon and there's nothing he can do about it.
@D00B @Eris @niplav @jeffcliff @boromir yes i threw you the dead pigeon reaction gif from arrested development in response
@bucadibeppo @D00B @Eris @niplav @jeffcliff @boromir he can go too i want him to die shitting himself during a killstream bc pottery
@jeffcliff @niplav @boromir

If it was their official, legitimate, public position that these things were fine, they wouldn't be scandals at all in the first place.
@Eris @boromir @niplav unless they had an 'outside' to contend with - it's *secular* people that have a problem with children being raped. The church was fine with it for millennia.

@niplav @jeffcliff I think there is a misunderstanding: even those who are excommunicated remain members of the Church!

@boromir @jeffcliff
i knew that, but it's still the "principal and severest censure" for anyone in the church (barring execution?), so I'd assume this would be what happens to catholics who commit great spiritual wrongdoings
