If you see a rattlesnake on the trail you’ll warily avoid it... what do you call such a counterparty? Not an enemy, competitor, or adversary. Not a proactive hostile either. Just a temperamentally dangerous person you want to avoid or handle with care.

some believe they'll be judged for not knowing things, so desperately try to bullshit everyone around them to maintain the facade of competence

while in reality, they're wasting everyone's time & fooling no one, not to mention hampering their own growth

the saga continues

there's this one guy in particular who is infuriating to deal with

missing tons of foundational knowledge (such as what memory is or what it means to 'redo'), which is fine

what's not fine is how he consistently LIES to my FACE about it

bad look, man

you know how some atheists make fun of fundies asking why monkeys still exist if evolution is real

consider applying this same logic to postrats asking why rats still exist if objective Truth is fake

will never understand why people insist on not reading error messages

its like their minds slip over them like the smoothest ice, completely ignoring their existence

incredible

this just in, transhumanism is just edging for death

RT @jmrphy
Death is the consummation of life. Eating, drinking, fighting, testosterone, sex and reproducing—all speed death because they are acute expressions of vitality.

The Longevity meme is not pro-life, it is an elongation of death into the present—that we may last a bit longer.

in conclusion this is why autists must be bullied, thank you for coming to my TED talk

gives me whiplash to watch these dudes go from putting out technically intricate and highly impressive design docs on complex domains

to asking me qs like "does 'storage autoscaling' mean the database will autoscale its storage"

pls. ur allowed to think about this, big brain

Show thread

incredible to watch domain-bounded learned helplessness in action, especially with otherwise brilliant people

for ex. developers continuously insist on turning their brains off when it comes to infrastructure

bro a database is just software. i promise u can figure it out

i talk a lot about the limitations of autism, how it manifests, but this is not to be discouraging; rather, to broaden conceptions of starting points, dispel notions of certain things being naturally accessible to all

this is why i'm a transhumanist; human, transcend yourself

Show thread

there's a flip side to this, however; that initial disability, forcing intentional efforts, gives you a huge step up once overcome; having learned how to Do The Thing, you end up more capable than those who had natural aptitude, able to self-improve

RT @pee_zombie

when you lack the intuitions many others seem to possess, you're disadvantaged, having to work harder to achieve the same results; there's a good bit of privilege in just being able to vibe, to be a social human, to operate a body with ease & fluidity

poor physical coordination & general disembodiment is a downstream consequence of this, too; when your sensory homunculus feels like a mecha you're underequipped to be able to operate, its only natural to avoid it, doubling down on non-physical pursuits

over time, with great efforts, it is possible for us to realize this, and learn to peel back the numbing, to consciously re-engage with our high-res sensoriums; this can be difficult and painful; there are many pitfalls here

but if you get thru them, much is unlocked for you

Show thread

it stems from genetic predisposition & environmental triggers for increased neural sensitivity. all else is downstream of this: from sensory issues to poor theory of mind, overly-rigid thinking patterns

like depression, much of autism is a numbing response to overwhelming inputs
