all of civilization represents Man's struggle against entropy, desperately staving off the encroaching chaos by carving out what semblance of order our powers can afford us

biotech enables us to gain control over our very beings, to take ownership

I've long said to be waiting for this sort of genetic screen to be possible before having children, as there's no way I'm raising a seriously disabled child; finally, this is becoming feasible. I'm incredibly grateful to have been born just in time to acquire such capabilities

attitude towards this sort of technology is highly predictive of several ideological schisms, including attitudes towards bioessentialism, class, and squeamishness

I look forward to inheriting the future with those who, like me, will do everything in their power to "show up"

fascinating to watch every techie suddenly have a strong opinion on the proper position of the goalposts for AI comprehension and their salience to the legal arguments of IP law

especially since they're all fuckin wrong ayy lmao

there are myriad methods to home these skills, many much less extreme than the ones I used. I encourage you to find opportunities to do so in your everyday life. intentionally seek out new environments, experiences; push your operating envelope, and transcend your limits.

if you have a solid grasp of your self, you're able to thrive within any sort of uncertainty, as the operating principles are the same; observe, orient, decide, and act. who and where are you, what are your options, what do you want, and how can you get it. these are universal.

Show thread

the same skills involved in wresting order from chaos in everyday life come in useful when you're dropped into wholly new environments and expected to function; social events where you know no one, unknown neighborhoods, virtual worlds, domains of knowledge outside your expertise

I'm not exactly the epitome of an enlightened being, as is more than apparent if you scroll through my profile; but I do have an uncommonly solid grasp on the operating principles of of agency, both in my personal and professional lives

this also lends me other advantages

it's a trial by fire, not one I recommend to anyone bc of the very real risks; some never come out of that state, they lose themselves in the deep and spend years wandering their shattered psyches, trying to put the pieces back together

but if you make it back, you transcend

I took this framework back into mundanity w/ me when I returned, & to this day i credit these experiences for allowing me to overcome ADHD executive dysfunction. if I could accomplish tasks while missing a sense of self, there's no reason I can't do the same whilst (mostly) sober

it's difficult to explain to one who has never experienced this, but when you're deep under the influence of certain substances, this becomes borderline impossible, taking all your resources just to maintain coherence

its a truly humbling lesson, shattering our preconceptions

realizing I was aware, looking around, touching upon all the relevant facts of where I was and what I was doing, checking if my current bearing was compatible w/ my previously stated intentions, applying a delta if I detected drift; thru endless iterations, I honed this system

over the course of many fuckup I learned to structure my consciousness in a way comparable to a realtime OS, making the OODA loop explicit, optimizing for resilience and ergodicity; spirals became my new best friends, a foundation for my awareness, and a psychic anchor

dissociative psychedelics teach you the most potent lesson, that of project managing ur realtime existence; you know you only have a limited amount of time to make decisions, a delay to implementing ur plans, & rather untrustworthy inputs; v comparable to the corporate world

I used to constantly make a point of trying my best to remain as cogent and present as possible no matter the combination of cognitive modifiers I happened to be experiencing at the time

it teaches you a lot about your limits, and how much of an illusion your self really is

this has very direct implications for why europe was the cradle of technological civilization

RT @pee_zombie
air conditioning is the biggest equalizer, as the reason technological civilization first arose in white skin nations is due to climate. kind of hard to sit and think long and hard enough to invent cool shit when you're sweating profusely

also consider the rust factor

never am i more convinced of computational materialism than when i'm consistently useless for several weeks straight bc my brain has nowhere to dump its waste heat

if you think we're gunna let you hold us back just so you can sit back, churn out your basic-ass JIRA tickets and collect a cushy salary you're in for a rough ride, pal

we're goin to the future and you're either gunna come with or get fired, your choice
