for those unaware, the eruv is a piece of wire stretched between lampposts of much of NYC at the behest of the Orthodox Jewish communities; it forms a loop enclosing many square miles of city blocks, and is used to "extend the private domain" to circumvent shabbat restrictions
bumping this again as I've been looking to move some of the discussions on here off the TL; mostly just been dropping links to interesting things in here, but come hang out if you're also dissatisfied with Twitter GCs

mb instead of speedrunning our way to connection, bypassing the typically-requisite intermediate stages due to our discomfort w/ ambiguity & social nuances, we should instead focus on improving our own skills? if you can only thrive in dysfunctional scenes, mb thats a you problem
i've long felt similarly about the discussed nerd-society practices of (what I see as) forced intimacy, strategic boundary erosion, culty social dynamics. throws up real Chesterton-esque red flags for me; perhaps peoples natural psychic immune systems resistance to such, is good?
while not a particularly novel observation anymore, he notices here how nerd society has recreated parallels to trad rituals such as confession & communal meaning-making, even while nominally seeking to do away w/ the old; does this indicate that people crave such practices?
great piece from our boy Yarvin on the foibles of nerd society, its project to reinvent social norms & rituals, and the pitfalls of Ask/Tell Culture. not sure I necessarily agree w/ the trad conclusion but he does raise some good points on fundamentals
quite ironically if I'd actually say it on here, the place I went to say things I'm not supposed to, it would lose me a good number of you

What’s your most insane belief? Like something you *actually* support but that most people, including those inside your political circle, would find ridiculous

egalitarian liberalism is so much more pleasant and lighthearted than evidence-based neoliberalism, bc it allows you to ignore the ugly truth & instead happily look into the distance at your beautiful platonic ideal
works great on the individual level, but it breaks a society
sure, I can admit the logical consequences of rationalist morality can be grotesque, but that's a reflection of the true nature of the world, rather than some attribute of the systems themselves. normie value systems function by obscuring the essentially violent nature of reality
nerd morality may be horrifying to normal people but it's also much more scalable, and we all know that the measure of a system's utility is how many situations it can survive having thrown at it without failing

taking applications; explaining things is my love language. the catch is that u can't get me to stop. the explanations never cease. things you never wanted to understand, things you didn't realize it was even possible to comprehend. there will be no end to the insights, beware.
