the unfortunate thing is that mostly anyone this thread is describing will (quite intentionally) fail to understand why this behavior is (correctly) perceived as a threat, as to them, assuming pronouns is just as offensive as assuming a black person is a servant

the cultural chasm is just too great, and may just be inherently impossible to bridge due to its nature. polite Western society is built on principles of tolerant apathy; the default assumption is that no one gives enough of a fuck about anyone else to bother insulting them

however, gender people start from a very different set of assumptions, namely that everyone is deeply interested in everyone else

this makes simple polite disinterest a much more heinous act than the other norm would consider it to be
