I work out, eat well, don't bring dirty hands to face, and wash my face regularly. that's it. had bad acne in hs and fixed it with those simple steps. no pill will fix you
unless you're really fucked, but I'm not talking to you then
every girl I've ever dated has been jealous of my skin and didn't understand how it was better than hers considering her extensive routine. hm. curious. perhaps there's a connection there. reverse that causality maybe?

I've been struggling with figuring out how to respond when well-meaning libs in my life get angry about this. I get it! but that's not fair or productive. even your political enemies deserve empathy. but tbh this is why I'm not as close to them as I used to be; the polarization

it may be worthwhile to make my desired social contracts explicit, to go thru the exercise of writing this out, if only for the sake of clarifying my own desires. I'd love to eventually have an opportunity to cultivate a space with such rules, but who knows what the future holds
I've tried a few times to cultivate spaces like this myself, but it hasn't really worked out; I'm not particularly good at community management unfortunately. the times it's sort of worked, they were effectively co-opted from me by more socially defy elements. but such is life
those spaces I've been lucky enough to find that did operate this way were a treasure to me; the social contract was explicitly declared & consistently enforced, with a vibrant community emerging as a result. ofc these tended to be somewhat nerdy spaces, but that's to be expected
it's rather depressing, how many times this pattern had recurred. ultimately the fault is on me for being naive and not checking my models against reality hard enough before investing significant efforts into relationships
but I really wish more spaces had explicit rules
this sucked, as I had grown to very much like some of those relationships, and thought they were reciprocal, only to find out the hard way that no, that was merely my perception, and once I'd push back on certain things my presence became more of a hassle than anything
I've been burned by trying to discover & follow the implicit rules in these spaces, only to unceremoniously be dumped for reasons unintelligible to me. in retrospect, I realized the rules were really "don't be tedious or make us deal with anything we don't want to"
I've historically struggled in social spaces that operated contrary to this principle, where the primary driver was existing relationships and actions were rationalized post hoc to protect a certain core group against perceived interlopers. doesn't make for a thriving commons.

much pointless angst is shed over naive conceptions of privacy/security
threat models come first; basically, what it is that you're trying to guard against, what is the failure scenario? if you can't answer that don't bother doing anything past the norm
you likely don't need it

tldr american culture really focuses on symbols over nature, and american cheese is a perfect example of that. it's more cheese-like than real cheese!

American cheese is a perfect avatar of a culture of hyperstimulus, an object constructed out of the purified platonic form of the semiotic referent, absent the naturalistic aspects thereof; it uplifts the cheese, refracted thru the memetics of the human perceptive apparatus

american cheese is so perfectly american because it's super fake but also obviously better than most of the real stuff

I should also mention that this is surprising bc I'd previously basically never get sick, at all. ofc working out way less contributes too but overall I'm just 🤔🤔🤔
recently had a minor week-long illness which didn't seem to be covid & I'd recently been around way more people than I had been in the previous year

wonder what will happen to flu rates this winter since people won't sit home like last year
