but it's more than that; it's the space where information resides, made up of communication networks & cyberplumbing. a world of structured data, fundamentally discretized, where our physical intuitions don't apply. what does "nearby" mean, to a computer? not what it does to us!

Show thread

some computer users go about it in a very organized way, intentional, planned out, highly structured. I applaud them! but I am not one such, altho I should be

most people don't even really know how to think about the digital realm. to them, it's just the world behind their phone

Show thread

been thinking about digital homelessness
wherein many people simply don't have a digital home

first, what is that? a place to keep your things, where you start from & come back to

is it your messy desktop where you just throw files? your home folder? is it Gmail? Twitter TL?

probably calling it quits for tonight but will resume tomorrow while procrastinating work; am enjoying this, ty for subjecting yourselves to the Gaze.

warning: it may not be flattering. you probably wont like it.

caveat emptor.

ofc, there are also those who have potential but not opportunity to harness it, like those resource constrained, for a variety of reasons; be it financial, time, energy, or coercion

but most others are only limiting themselves out of fear

I dream of a world where people think

...after endless attempts to show people how what mattered more than your clock speed was the software you ran, and being rebuffed with claims that this just wasn't possible, that people couldn't change, that I was being offensive for telling them they just needs to try and learn

a huge whitepill for me was realizing that intelligence is multidimensional, and the much more relevant aspect for the vast majority of situations is skill, not raw potential; this meant that most people could be taught to be smarter!

this quickly turned into a blackpill

I wonder if those who claim to be aphantic are actually just verbally hijacked; as in, they've overfit into verbal reasoning ability & have forgotten how to consciously access physical intuition (visualization)

could explain much about why autists are like that

too many words

Show thread

is there a negative correlation between aphantasia and shape rotating ability score

bc if not, that would basically prove it isn't "real" in the way its popularly imagined to be

if you truly weren't able to visualize, how could you be good at rotato?

RT @pee_zombie
aphantasia isnt real, mostly every (normal-enough) human has a native neurological capability for 3D visualization and can't turn it off

those who claim to have apha…

yes, modernity is fucked! no that doesn't mean we go back; there is no back to go to

and now, lo & behold, i don't have many of the weird problems i used to have, purely as a function of doing something unusual! i have more normal problems instead which there exist plenty of advice and known solutions for

wow! turns out i dont need to be unique in every way!

wild how so many of my tiny life improvements over the past few years have involved giving up on some weird personal quirk & just doing things the normal way

i stopped:
refusing to drink coffee
refusing to lift weights
refusing to have a proper computer desk
refusing takeout
etc

(it's more likely than you think)

RT @chaosprime
mfs really be out here addressing ~the hard problem of consciousness~ by asking "how can it be that the disembodied, memory-storing, emotion-producing ghost that i am is in control of a tragic meat husk?"

i mean, yeah, definitely gonna be hard finding a good answer to that one

artificial wombs, embryo screening, designer babies

all these technological advances are clearly inevitable and will become a part of life; why argue against them? its not like you'll stop anyone. much more interesting to explore their consequences, imo

lots of procreation discourse on the TL lately, of various forms; wonder whats been prompting this. the moonbot? the general spring horniness? receeding covid got people thinking about the future again?

people that think this way tend to be somewhat romantic, drawn to a certain watercolored view of life and humanity, wanting to inject magic into the mundane and reject the mechanization of the world
