4/ Sysiphos' pointless struggle is thus a direct result of his awareness and his acceptance of the meaninglessness of the world. (Note the parallels to the expulsion from paradise, for instance)

3/ this shows us that we need to change our understanding of "punishment after death":

it is something that is implied *automatically*, necessarily, by his contempt for death and the gods.

"after death" is not temporal, but means "spiritually", "concerning the soul."

2/ sure, the gods might punish him for that (by terrible pain, say), but that would mean his punishment is actually different: choose between rock OR pain. But that's not what it was.

Just reread Camus' Myth of Sysiphos.

I'd always been confused by Sysiphos' punishment: why couldn't he just refuse to push that rock up that hill? 1/

@w4tsn This is the same for me under windows and/or Android. Seems to depend on the weather.

@flancian reminds me of the legendary mardi-gras truce of 1942. (See my earlier post)

Shitlibs be like:

No! The mute function is not enough! Just because I can't see you doesn't mean I don't know you're there! You need to agree with me or be purged from society!

The AI revolution is here, episode #264:

Attempting to gesture-type "front-facing", Google came up with the word "Front-Fasching".

Translated literally as "front carnival", this seems to refer to the much lesser known mardi-gras truce of 1942, where Nazi Sturmtruppen and Soviet soldiers forgot the turmoils of war for a moment, dressed up in funny costumes, danced, and ate candy. 🧐

@flancian literally was getting mad at DNS yesterday.

@GNUxeava See, it just said at the top, type help to get *more* information, not less. Gotta use help | more.

/sp try just help

@bjoern
Does this only concern syncing bookmarks etc? If so, is this really relevant / would it lead to migration away from open software? (I'm personally not getting any use out of the feature)

Suggestions for #Mastodon development in 2021:

* Federated user blocking. The strength of federated software is hardness against censorship, but if this feature allows people to say the n-word then it is a bug not a feature.

* Social security number verification step for user registration. Elimination of anonymity should make trolling harder and keep the people who live in the margins of society safer.

* Reporting a user for a racist post automatically fowards the report to the police via email so te police can start investigating while the mods deal with the issue.

* Fact-checking disclaimers for posts containing disputed or controversial information. If Snopes judges a statement "mostly false" then people shouldn't waste time with it.

* Algorithmic post feed. One huge hurdle for Mastodon growth is how hard it is for corporations to promote their important native advertisement posts over meaningless posts written by nobodies. If Mastodon can ensure that influencers and megacorporations have greater reach it would promote a healthier and more engaging user experience.

this also concerns the Parler/AWS saga. the hypermodernist dream of an infinitely scalable cloud is contingent on political alignment; an invisible constraint, keenly felt by those outside the lines

the future is already here, just unevenly distributed
