I have images back! The problem was that the security certificate expired 12 days ago (cc @locus fyi), I enabled them by opening up an image directly in my browser and clicking "view anyway"

"federated" is kind of lame because that's unfiltered and just has a lot of people from a lot of instances

one thing I feel is missing from mastodon (which might be good that its missing ?? from a "no algorithmic newsfeeds >:(" pov) is I don't feel like I can easily discover new people to follow, like the set of people that I'm following here is basically just people who I recognize from Twitter and I find new people to follow in general at all by seeing who looks cool on Twitter
